It was a nice day and I decided to just go for a ride. Sometimes I need to tell myself, ??Self, get out of the arena and get onto the trails.???? Some friends brought over their 2 horses and we all went for a ride. My wife was on Dakota. He is a Paint that [...][1255]
Anytime I am around my horses I am always doing some sort of training. Like most people, I too have a day job. So, when it comes to training my horses I have to make every moment count. For example, when I go out to feed my yearlings I like [...][1254]
The Goal
I was working with Vego and Gemini today. I have been working on desensitizing them to loud noises. The final goal is 1) to be able to shoot a gun while sitting on their backs and 2) to be able to ride them down a street filled with people, flying streamers, loud [...][1253]
The Horse
I bought Aries knowing that he had some issues. Not a problem, I like a challenge. One of the first problems we had to deal with is catching him. When I go out to catch a horse I make my intentions very obvious. I approach the horse with the halter [...][1252]

Running at Your Horse?
I want to make my horses as safe as possible in a variety of situations. Therefore I try to expose them to as many situations as possible. Although I would never advocate approaching your horse at a full sprint I think there are good reasons to let your horse get [...][1247]
I load up a bale of hay in a wheel barrel. I exit the barn and the horses rush in to start eating the hay from the wheel barrel. I would like to get the hay to their feeder before they start eating. So, time for some training.
This one is pretty simple. [...][1246]
