New Courses Cover Migration from PHP 4 to PHP 5 and Zend Studio for Eclipse, the leading PHP IDE

Cupertino, CA  –  August 6, 2008  –  Zend Technologies announced today the addition of two new PHP training courses: “Migration from PHP 4 to PHP 5” and “Zend Studio for Eclipse”. These courses further expand the portfolio of Zend training courses, which include PHP from introduction to advanced levels, as well as courses about PHP Security, creation of Rich Internet Applications, and the use of major Zend products.

The PHP courses, complemented with PHP 5 Certification Training, prepare students for the Zend PHP Certification Examination. With over 3,300 Zend Certified Engineers (ZCEs) worldwide, Zend Certification has become the global standard by which enterprises select, recruit and educate PHP professionals. More than 300 ZCEs advertise their Zend certification on their resumes in the LinkedIn professional network (http://www.linkedin.com).

Oxagile is a rapidly growing software outsourcing company with a strong focus on quality. They have achieved  a number of goals with their participation in Zend’s certification programs.

“Becoming a certified expert brings many benefits to the engineer, to the company, and its clients,” says Dmitry Karpovich, Oxagile CEO.  “The ZCE Certification demonstrates that the development team keeps in step with the latest PHP technology.  And it helps to show our customers and prospects that we have highly qualified PHP developers where it matters most of all - their critical projects.”

Through Zend, enterprise organizations have access to a complete training portfolio that enable their staff to deliver high-impact web applications faster, more predictably, and with better quality. They’ll be trained in industry best practices for web development, leveraging the modern object-oriented capabilities of PHP and frameworks, while leveraging state-of-the-art Zend product solutions.

"Signing our engineers up for the Zend Framework training was by far the best ROI investment I've made for our project," said Jose C. Lacal with HealthLibrarian. "Our engineers delivered a fully working search engine with many customizations we needed within two weeks of completing Zend's course."

“By offering our curriculum in multiple languages, on-line and on-site through Zend training centers, Authorized Training Partners, and in collaboration with universities, we make our training easily accessible to both the growing PHP community and to commercial companies worldwide,” said Susie Sedlacek, vice president for global services at Zend. “Participants also benefit from our in-depth analysis of customer input, extensive research, and proven methods of instructional design. Zend has invested thousands of hours of experience into developing a curriculum that focuses on business relevance.”

“Our goal is to endow our clients with the skills and tools necessary to meet their needs in the most convenient and powerful methods used in adult education today, and our consistently high customer satisfaction ratings confirm our success,” adds Deirdre Bradley, head of instructional design at Zend.

Sponsored by Zend and delivered through Pearson Vue, the Zend PHP certification, leading to the title of Zend Certified Engineer (ZCE), is the standard for developers who want to demonstrate PHP proficiency.

Zend Certification testing is provided as part of conference attendance at the Zend/PHP Conference 2008, to be held in Santa Clara, California from September 15-18. For more information about ZendCon and to register, please visithttp://www. zendcon. com.

CUPERTINO, Calif.--Zend Technologies, the PHP Company, today announced that high-performance web applications can be deployed with confidence on Microsofts Windows Server 2008, the next generation platform for running business-critical applications. Microsoft and Zend have worked together on Zend Core, Zends tested, certified and supported version of PHP. Zend Core and PHP are now certified for Windows Server 2008.

Microsoft and Zend continue to collaborate to ensure performance and reliability with PHP and Windows, said Sam Ramji, director of open source technology strategy at Microsoft. Together we are creating high levels of compatibility and supporting the workload and the development styles that our customers want to use on Windows Server.

This announcement is the latest in a series of collaborations between Zend and Microsoft aimed at delivering high performance and reliability for PHP applications running on the Windows Server platform. Several of these enhancements have been contributed back to the PHP community. Late last year, Microsoft announced delivery of its FastCGI component for IIS, an interface between PHP and the IIS Web server that delivered substantial reliability and performance benefits for PHP applications running on Windows. Zend is also working closely with Microsoft by integrating support for Information Cards in Zend Framework, the leading PHP open source framework for building modern web applications and web services. This enables internet users to manage, control and exchange digital identities more safely and consistently using Windows CardSpace®. In addition, Microsoft has undertaken more than a dozen projects to ensure that the most popular PHP applications run on Windows, including Mambo, WordPress and Coppermine, among others.

"Todays announcement is another milestone in our multi-year agreement to ensure that PHP is a first-class citizen on the Windows Server platform, said Zend CTO and Co-Founder Andi Gutmans. Were pleased that Windows Server 2008 is PHP ready at launch. Going forward, Zends entire product portfolio will support Server 2008, including Zend Platform our PHP application server which enables managing and scaling large scale PHP applications."

Windows Server 2008 software certification consists of approximately 100 test cases that independently confirm an application's compliance with best practices for compatibility, security, reliability, and availability on the new platform, while ensuring the software performs in a 64-bit environment. The certification identifies top-performing technologies that are ready to deploy in mission-critical environments. As a participant in the Microsoft Early Access Program (EAP) for Windows Server 2008 Software Certification, Zend Core is one of more than 300 applications that are eligible for certification on a pre-release version of the new platform.

Details about Windows Server 2008 software certification, its test framework, and the Early Access Program are available at www.innovateonwindowsserver.com.

Zend Platform 3.6 significantly expands the breadth and depth of its manageability, performance and clustering support for PHP, enabling organizations to better guarantee that their business critical web applications will meet end user’s quality, availability and response time expectations.

“The overall responsiveness and reliability of PHP web applications is determined by a wide range of factors. PHP developers and web administrators often struggle with a patchwork of technologies to identify and remove bottlenecks and causes of failure," said Mark de Visser, Chief Marketing Officer at Zend Technologies. “Zend Platform 3.6 offers a comprehensive solution to this problem. At every stage of the application lifecycle it helps developers and administrators understand and improve the quality, performance and reliability of their PHP applications.”

Zend Platform 3.6 delivers new and enhanced functionality in 3 major areas:

·         PHP Intelligence.  Zend Platform monitors PHP applications in real time and reports script errors, database problems, performance issues and more. It reduces downtime by recording full context for reported problems for easy “root cause” diagnostics and short time to resolution. The enhancements in version 3.6 include the ability to monitor HTTP, Apache and Java events, expanded performance alerts, and better diagnostics by enabling debugging of production problems on development servers.

·         Performance Management. Zend Platform improves the performance of PHP applications by caching pre-optimized PHP byte code and content in a number of ways. In version 3.6, the options for caching content have been expanded substantially, with support for file or URL based page caching, client-side caching and in-memory or disk based data caching. In addition to the powerful caching functionality, Zend Platform 3.6 also offers automatic output compression to save bandwidth, enhanced job-queues for deferred and offline processing and an improved download server for optimized delivery of large content and media files.

·         Cluster Management. Zend Platform provides support to scale PHP applications across clusters of servers, thereby improving application reliability and overall performance. Improved in Platform 3.6 are the high-availability options and the cluster configuration and support tools.

In Ticketing offers event organizers online ticketing and box office services, selling more than 1 million tickets per year. “Our business is characterized by very strong peaks of activity, so our web applications need to be able to perform well under very high transaction volumes,” said Marc Urbaitel, Co-founder and CTO at InTicketing. “During our recent start of sales of tickets for a major event we processed more than 20,000 job processes in the first few hours of ticket sales. We deployed an early version of Zend Platform 3.6 on load balanced web servers with a dedicated Job Queue server, which enabled us to process these transactions while maintaining very good response times on our website.”

“Zend Framework applications are generally built using a model-view-controller design pattern (MVC) that enables a separation of business logic and data from the visual user interface elements. The new URL-based page caching of Platform 3.6 will dramatically improve the performance of these MVC applications,” says Andi Gutmans, co-founder and co-CTO at Zend Technologies. “With over 3 million downloads to date, and many corporate deployments of Zend Framework, we are excited to be able to offer our customers this important new functionality.”
